As a carpenter, we work with wood and other materials to construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures. Your job typically involves interpreting blueprints or technical drawings, measuring and cutting materials to precise specifications, and using a range of hand and power tools to build and assemble frameworks, walls, doors, windows, cabinetry, or furniture. Depending on the job, you may be involved in:
Framing buildings or rooms (walls, floors, roofs)
Installing doors, windows, molding, and trim
Constructing staircases or custom wood structures
Building or installing cabinetry and countertops
Repairing or restoring damaged woodwork
Working with other materials (drywall, insulation, hardware)
You often work on construction sites, in workshops, or in clients' homes, sometimes under tight deadlines or in varying weather conditions. Accuracy, attention to detail, and physical strength are key, as is knowing how to work safely with tools and equipment. We might also coordinate with other trades (electricians, plumbers, painters) to ensure everything fits together in a build.
