Frequently Asked Questions

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

What makes Lippoldkraft special if not unique is that Stephan works alongside his team and supervision is continual. He is not one to run several building sites and pop in from time to time to 'keep an eye on things'. Another factor people comment on repeatedly is that at the end of every day, the site is cleaned, and the presence of the team generally is not as stressful as that of others in the clients' previous experience.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Stephan has worked in this industry for many years, beginning in Germany where among other work, he supervised the building of blocks of flats. During a stint in Siberia on the gas line from 1987 to 1990, the team from East Germany had to first to construct their own multi-storey living quarters onsite, using shipping containers as the basic structure. After The Wall fell, Stephan travelled the world and supported himself as a handyman in several countries. More recently, he has been working in Fish Hoek since 2015, before which he worked on the Atlantic seaboard, renovating houses.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

We enjoy renovating houses and building additions to existing structures, as well as building underground support for houses on hillsides which develop cracks. Lately, our tiling and woodwork is becoming more well-known. In general a particular strength is solving problems creatively. You will seldom hear 'It can't be done.'

How do you normally charge for your service?

We charge a daily rate for smaller/shorter jobs, e.g. for projects lasting less than a month. For larger projects, we estimate per project and a monthly accounting is provided by an independent bookkeeper. All slips for materials are handed over at the end of any work.

What makes your pricing competitive?

What makes our pricing competitive is that we charge probably much the same as similar companies, but the quality of our work and attention to detail adds value.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Uptasker customers?

None at present, but Stephan is always happy to come out to clients with no call-out fee and discuss their needs. He is naturally generous with advice and solutions to problems, especially around what needs to be done when buying a new house or selling your current home. This puts clients under no obligation to use his services.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Be clear about what you want before you begin. Changes of plans during the work can be expensive, especially moving of walls and changing the size or level of windows to mention just two examples. We don't mind making the changes, but the cost adds up and it's good to be aware of that. Be sure you have an experienced architect. Look out for second-hand garage doors, flooring e.g. parquet flooring, doors or windows. This can save a lot of money.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Stephan would need to visit the site. Sometimes it is possible to see hidden problems the client is unaware of, and this can prevent a lot of expense later. By the same token, it is not always necessary to replace, when items can be repaired and this would need to be assessed onsite. A good example is the Wynberg Tennis Club's premises where we repaired all the windows on the front of the building instead of the club replacing them. Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

We are insured and our work carries a two-year guarantee for small projects and five years for new builds.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Could you show me examples of your work? Who have you worked for in the past? What if something goes wrong? Is your work guaranteed?

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

We feel Stephan and team's work speaks for itself. View examples of their building, renovations, woodwork and tiling on his website, Lippoldkraft.com as well as his Facebook page, Lippoldkraft.
